Skovvangskolen is a public primary and lower secondary school located in the northern part of Aarhus, approximately 2 km from the very center of Aarhus, the second biggest city in Denmark. Aarhus in known as “The City of the Smile” for its kind and loving
ambience. We have all the things you look for in a city with 350.000 inhabitants – including woods and beaches.

The school houses 550 students, 50 teachers and 25 pedagogical staff. We have students from both rich and poor families.
Around 30% of the students have their origin in another country, but are very well integrated. Next school year all of the students will be given a laptop to work on at school. In Denmark we have a lot of movement in class. We try to integrate it in every lesson. At least once a day. It can be “run, read and relax”, a ball game, just running down the stairs and back, a little game to work with a subject in another way, or something completely different, just as long as it gets your blood running. We also try to “get out of the house”, like visiting historical places, attending different workshops, cooperating with the municipal library etc.

We are trying to improve the language lessons to improve the language skills of our students. We teach English (from 1st grade), German (from 5th grade), French (from 5th grade) and Spanish (from 7th grade). We, the teachers, have made a goal, that next year all language classes must communicate with students from other countries in the different languages. That will be on eTwinning or other platforms. The important thing is to have authentic communication with peers. We also hope to gain the project about Eurodetectives, so that the students can communicate face to face with peers. That way they can learn so much more than we can teach them in school.
