Danish activities

Official welcome at the townhall

The first day we went to the town hall to have an official welcome by the councilor.

Moesgaard Museum

We went to the interesting prehistoric museum, Moesgaard, to study the Viking age and were told various legends from that period of time.

Dokk1

At the main library we had a workshop with blackout poetry. We erased some of the words and left others to make new creative meaning and made it in a decorative way with patterns.

Citywalk

All the visitors went for a citywalk to hear the legend about Mr. Drakenberg. They visited the cathedral and a small viking museum in the center of Aarhus.

Christmas dinner

At Christmas time in Denmark we’re having a traditional dinner so on Wednesday night we had a roast, potatoes, sugar potatoes, red cabbitch, brown sauce. For dessert we had ris a la mande. It’s a dessert with milk, cream, rice and little pieces of almonds. You put a whole almond in it, and the person who gets it in his portion, can swop it to a present.

We played a little Christmas game, sang carrols from all the different countries and had Danish Christmas cookies.

Den gamle by (The Old Town)

In Aarhus we have an outdoor museum, an entire village made from old buildings. You enter the village and you can see how they lived in the past. We went with a guide who told us about the famous author, HC. Andersen and his life.

The museum was decorated for Christmas and we all enjoyed the special Christmas atmosphere.

Goodbye dinner

On Thursday night all the hostfamilies were invited to a dinner at school. Each country made a presentation with highlights from the week. We had a nice dinner and a lot of Danish “hygge” (cosiness). We could feel that the youngsters had made friendships across borders.

Roleplay

We worked with four Danish legends in groups. Each group made a roleplay that was filmed and we watched them together.

Ice skating

The last activity was to go ice skating and have lots of fun before saying goodbye to all our new friends from Ireland, Belgium and Spain.
